In October 2018, the Foundation's Board of Directors approved the first Slovenian project. It involved enabling the beneficiaries of the Sonček association to take part in sports!

Suzana, the project leader, tells us all about her special day with the beneficiaries!

"The Shiny people project is the first Slovenian project supported by the Decathlon Foundation and I have to say that I'm really lucky and proud to be part of this great project because I campaign for everyone to have the same opportunity to do sport.

Last year, we took part in a range of sporting activities. We had Water Day, where we went kayaking. It was an incredible experience for everyone, as it was the first time for almost all the participants. They really enjoyed every moment of the day.

On the same day, we had the opportunity to try out a bike adapted for the disabled. We had two different types of bike. One was suitable for road bikes and the other for mountain bikes.

We also organized a day of walking. Unfortunately, it was raining, but that didn't stop us! We visited "Planina nad Vrhniko" (mountain above Vrhnika). Planina Hill is 733 meters above sea level and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area.

We also had a fishing day. Our staff explained to each beneficiary everything they needed to know about fishing. We had a lot of good catches! It was a great experience for everyone.

We also visited their center where we played various games, such as Boccia, table tennis and other indoor activities.

To round off the day, the association's beneficiaries were also given the opportunity to discover our store's missions. This gave them an idea of what a typical working day was like, and they got to know our team.

They were really impressed by our company Decathlon and soon one of the association's beneficiaries will start an internship in a company.!"
