"More socially impactful projects! "
On October 11, 2018, Decathlon Foundation advisors met in Roubaix to validate the solidarity projects of Decathlon teammates. Each project is the result of a personal story between Decathlonians and beneficiaries.
Here's their story!
DECATH'LET
"My wife and I measure how lucky we are to have children who are healthy and play a wide range of sports, and we want to offer the same opportunity to these children!", were the emotion-filled words spoken by David after the announcement of the project's validation!
David, Newfeel teammate, and Florence, nutritionist and David's wife, are committed to helping young children and teenagers at the Marc Sautelet pediatric center (Nord)!
The aim of the project is to develop physical activity and integrate Nordic walking into the daily lives of young people suffering from obesity.
Thanks to our partnership with the Decathlon Foundation, the Marc Sautelet Center will give more than 250 young people access to Nordic walking every year!
LET'S GINKGO GIRL
"The Ginkgo Sport project is fantastic and in line with our values at Décathlon. I'm a big believer in integration through sport, and the philosophy at Ginkgo Sport shows that they're already very open to their environment, forming a motley community that's close-knit and caring towards each other. What's more, at Kipsta, I've been strongly sensitized to women's sports, having been heavily involved in the first women's soccer collection." These are the words spoken by Julien, a Decathlon employee who has been involved throughout the adventure with the GINKGO GIRL association, to promote the integration of young girls from working-class neighborhoods in Tourcoing through the practice of combat sports!
In addition to sporting activities, our Decathlon team-mates are committed to supporting beneficiaries in their job search, helping them to write CVs and simulate job interviews.
This project, supported by the Foundation, will help over 450 beneficiaries over the next five years.
PARKOUR 59
"Alone we go fast, together we go further". Larbi, director of the Parkour 59 association, likes to promote this slogan! Alexis, a Decathlon team-mate and member of the Parkour 59 association's Board of Directors, couldn't pass up the opportunity to support this association via the Foundation!
Parkour 59 is a sports association based in Roubaix that uses "the art of movement and urban motion to train all publics to surpass themselves and express themselves".
The project led by Alexis and Larbi aims to boost the integration of young people from Roubaix's working-class neighborhoods through sport.
Thanks to the project's approval, the association will be able to attract many young people to practice Parkour and improve its sports facilities.
The Decathlon team-mates at the Leers store (Nord) are also committed to welcoming young people from the association into their store, and why not, creating some vocations!
SHINY PEOPLE
Shiny people is the first Slovenian project supported by the Decathlon Foundation since its creation in 2005.
Decathlon teammate Suzana and her team at the Ljubljana store wanted to get involved with the Slovenian Sonzek association, which supports people with mental disabilities through sporting activities.
All the association's beneficiaries will take part in adapted sports activities such as boccia, archery, badminton and table tennis.
SKY BOWL
"To make skateboarding accessible to all, without discrimination or constraint, in a unique place for sharing, open to all, free of charge and creative, and to develop the employability of young skateboarders" - these are the reasons why Jean-Philippe, team-mate at Oxelo (Decathlon's skateboard brand) wanted to get involved with La Condition Publique in Roubaix.
The aim of the project is to bring together and mobilize the entire community of skateboard, scooter, BMX and rollerblade enthusiasts around a unique venue combining sport and street art. The venue will be located on the roof of La Condition Publique!
The Oxelo team is committed to offering internships and job interviews to the most motivated young skaters interested in the careers on offer at Décathlon!
